As this is a holiday week, we only had one class, but it was a good one! It was about work. With all of the complaints that the older generation spouts off about how the younger generation is so lazy, I would have to think that over the years that work has declined. And guess what? I was right.
When farming and business was the main work for everybody, the family all worked together. Everyone did their part, even the youngest children. There was something for everyone to do from dawn till dusk. Because of the close-knit family during work, the family itself was close-knit. Working together makes for a happy family.
Of course, as the industrial revolution hit, world wars, and child labor laws, the work days became longer, husbands had to leave the home, and the family was splitting apart. After a while it became common for the mother to leave the home and be in the workforce, and overtime this has evolved housework and chores to be "dirty words," and a social expectation for the mother to work outside the home because working in it is a waste. This has all contributed to the dissolution of the family.
I think that this social expectation is sad. Housework and family are important! Mothers should be in the home, and it is hard work! She's not "just a housewife," she is a mother doing an important work that everyone should be proud of!
There's a song by Lonestar called Mr. Mom that I have always enjoyed that applied to this topic. It shows in a humorous way just how much work it takes to be a mom. It is hard work! I found a cute fan-made video off Youtube that I hope you will enjoy.
When we help women stay in the home, we will help to build stronger future generations. We will be able to instill in the next generation a stronger work ethic, and thereby make the future of this nation brighter. There are countless studies that will account of the importance of a mother in the home, and a father that shows that he cares for his family. The traditional family is honestly the best way to go if we want the future generation to be better than we are now.
