This month so far, we have talked about temperament and personality (there is a difference though they are closely tied. Well worth looking into to understand human actions a little better) and different ways of showing love.
I think that what will stick with me from this week is that it is impossible to show your child too much of the right kind of love. If the parent is showing love through gifts, though there is nothing wrong with this, if it is the only way it is going to make the child spoiled. The type of loves that matters comes from cuddling, hugs and kisses, service, kinds words and quality time (5 love languages, anyone?).
Children, just like everyone, have an emotional dimension that needs to be addressed. If you want your child to be emotionally needy, don't give them love. If you want your child to be well adjusted, secure, and all together well-off, give them physical attention and cuddle them to sleep, give them hugs or brush their hair; do all that you can to help your child, help them feel accomplished and appreciate all of their hard work by acknowledging their successes and effort and time put into their accomplishment; and always make time to spend with your child, because quality time is vital. Again, gifts are great, but too many can be bad, especially if this is the only way that love is being expressed.
Just keep showering your child with love, and everything will turn out alright. Love makes the world go round.
